Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga’s husband, George Wanga, has been formally appointed as the new Managing Director of the Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB).

President William Ruto confirmed the appointment, granting Wanga a three-year term to oversee the organisation’s operations and drive sustainable growth.

Wanga previously served at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and was the non-executive chairperson of its Board of Directors earlier this year. His appointment to EPRA was revoked in June 2025, sparking public debate.

KLB, established in 1980, is responsible for publishing, printing, and distributing educational materials, including curriculum-based textbooks that support Kenya’s education system.

Wanga officially assumed office on Wednesday, November 26, meeting Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok in Nairobi. During the meeting, he reaffirmed KLB’s commitment to providing high-quality learning materials aligned with the national curriculum and ongoing education reforms.

PS Bitok welcomed Wanga’s appointment, highlighting the importance of the partnership between KLB and the Ministry of Education in strengthening competency-based learning. “Our focus remains on ensuring that every learner has access to relevant, affordable, and high-quality educational resources,” Bitok said.

The new MD expressed readiness to lead KLB in delivering materials that meet curriculum requirements while supporting the government’s broader education agenda.
