Arsenal have completed the signing of Danish midfielder Christian Nørgaard from Brentford, strengthening their midfield options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. The 30-year-old brings Premier League experience, leadership, and tactical intelligence to Mikel Arteta’s side.
Nørgaard began his professional journey with Lyngby BK in Denmark, debuting at age 17 before a brief stint with Hamburg in Germany. He returned to Denmark in 2013, joining Brøndby IF, where he developed into a key figure. During his five-year spell at Brøndby, Nørgaard made 147 appearances, scored 12 goals, provided nine assists, and was named Player of the Year in 2017. He also helped the club lift the Danish Cup in the 2017/18 season.
A move to Serie A side Fiorentina followed in 2018, but after one season, Nørgaard joined Brentford in 2019. His time in West London was marked by steady growth and pivotal contributions, including guiding Brentford to Premier League promotion in 2021 after a 74-year absence from top-flight football. He was appointed club captain ahead of the 2023/24 season and enjoyed his most prolific scoring campaign last term, netting six goals from defensive midfield.
Internationally, Nørgaard debuted for Denmark’s senior team in a 0-0 UEFA Nations League draw with England in September 2020. Since then, he has earned 35 caps, becoming a regular feature for the national team.
Announcing the move, Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta said:
We’re very pleased to welcome Christian Nørgaard to the club. He has been a consistent high performer in the Premier League and brings many qualities to our club. He is a leader and a player with high tactical intelligence and versatility who will have a very positive impact on the squad.”
Manager Mikel Arteta praised the acquisition, saying:
Christian is an international player with proven experience and leadership. He brings physical presence, tactical awareness, and character to our midfield. His qualities will help us add depth and balance. We’re excited to begin working with him in this new chapter.”
Christian will wear the number 16 shirt and joins the Arsenal squad immediately for pre-season. The transfer remains subject to final regulatory approvals.
Supporters can now purchase the Nørgaard 2025/26 home shirt, available both in-store and online.
