Celta Vigo Signs Kibet Until 2029
On Wednesday, July 16, RC Celta Vigo confirmed the signing of Kibet on a four-year deal, locking him in until 2029. The club announced the news via its official website and social media platforms.
“Celta signs Aldrine Kibet, an 18-year-old attacking winger, who joins until 2029. The player arrives for free and will have a Celta Youth player card, although he will initially join Celta Fortuna… Welcome, Aldrine!” the statement read.
Kibet will start his career in Spain with Celta Fortuna—the club’s reserve team—also known as Celta B, which competes in the Primera Federación, Spain’s third tier. The move is designed to nurture his talent and ease his transition into European football.
From U20 Heroics to European Dreams
Kibet attracted Celta Vigo’s attention after a stunning performance with Kenya’s U20 national team, where he scored four goals in five matches. Known for his dribbling, quick feet, and vision, Kibet is regarded as one of East Africa’s top emerging football talents.
Football experts see his transfer as a validation of the country’s budding youth systems and a sign of increasing international interest in Kenyan football.
A Breakthrough for Kenyan Football
The estimated KSh 840 million move represents a historic leap for Kenyan footballers aspiring to play in Europe. Kibet now joins the ranks of other elite Kenyan exports like Victor Wanyama and Michael Olunga, who have played in European top-flight leagues.
Celta Vigo’s youth system, known as Canteira Celeste, has a reputation for developing top talent. Kibet’s integration into this setup could fast-track his rise to the senior La Liga squad if he continues to perform.
What’s Next for Kibet?
Having secured a position in one of Spain’s most competitive youth development environments, Kibet now faces the challenge of proving himself on a new stage. If he continues to shine, a senior debut in La Liga could be a reality within a few seasons.
Local coaches and fans have praised the move as a major achievement for Kenya’s football development and a sign that grassroots efforts are beginning to pay off.
