Manchester United have reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth £70 million, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils, now under the guidance of new manager Ruben Amorim, are pushing forward with their squad rebuild after finishing a dismal 15th in the Premier League last season. United have already secured the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, but strengthening the attack remains a top priority.
Mbeumo, 25, had a breakout season with Brentford in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, scoring 20 goals and registering 7 assists, making him one of the most in-demand wingers in Europe. His performances caught the eye of several top clubs including Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, the latter now managed by his former boss Thomas Frank.
However, Mbeumo made it clear that his preferred destination was Old Trafford, leading to advanced talks between the clubs. Manchester United’s third bid—worth £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons—was accepted this week after previous offers of £55 million and £60 million were turned down.
The deal comes as part of a broader restructuring of United’s attacking options, with reports indicating that Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho could all be allowed to leave permanently this summer. There are also ongoing doubts over the future of Danish striker Rasmus Højlund, who has struggled for form and fitness since his arrival last season.
Mbeumo’s versatility and end product make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s system. The winger has been praised by pundits for his consistency, intelligence, and work rate.
In addition to the attacking overhaul, United are targeting reinforcements in central midfield, defence, and potentially a new goalkeeper, depending on available funds from outgoing transfers. Amorim is keen to shape the team in his vision before the start of pre-season.
Mbeumo is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days, with official confirmation of the move likely before United jet off for their pre-season tour.
