Kenya Police Bullets Kick Off CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers at Nyayo Stadium
September 4, 2025 | Nairobi – Kenya Police Bullets are set to begin their campaign for a spot in the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League at the CECAFA Zone Qualifiers, starting Thursday at Nyayo Stadium. The FKF Women’s Premier League champions will face Uganda’s Kampala Queens in their opening Group A match scheduled for 4 PM.
Head coach Florence Odemba, who also leads the Harambee Starlets, emphasized the significance of leveraging home advantage against a formidable Kampala Queens side. Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Odemba expressed cautious optimism about her team’s readiness.
“We are thankful to play on home soil, with our fans and families present for the second time at this stage,” Odemba stated. “Although we narrowly lost to Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) previously, that experience has strengthened us. After six weeks of rigorous training following the announcement of the qualifiers, we are prepared to face our opponents and will give our best.”
Odemba also confirmed that three key players will miss the opening match due to injuries but highlighted the positive impact of new squad additions. “Despite some knocks sidelining three starters, the fresh players have injected energy and depth, which will be vital moving forward,” she added.
Group A features Kenya Police Bullets, Kampala Queens (Uganda), and Denden FC (Eritrea). Group B includes defending champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Top Girls Academy (Burundi), and Rayon Sports WFC (Rwanda). Group C comprises Tanzania’s JKT Queens, South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars, and Zanzibar’s JKU Princess.
Bullets captain Annedy Kundu called on Kenyan supporters to rally behind the team. “We encourage Kenyans to come out in large numbers, just as they have supported the Harambee Stars. Representing Kenya is a great honor, and this tournament is important for the country,” Kundu said.
Fans will enjoy free entry to all matches, with CECAFA Competitions Director Yousuf Mossi urging widespread attendance to boost women’s football in the region.
The qualifiers, running through September 11, bring together nine league champions from the CECAFA zone competing for a single berth at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, scheduled for November in Egypt.
