President William Ruto will on Thursday begin a high-profile tour of Homa Bay County to launch and inspect a series of development projects ahead of the national Madaraka Day celebrations set for Sunday, June 1, at the Raila Odinga Stadium.
The tour, which underscores the government’s push for national inclusivity and grassroots development, kicks off in Ndhiwa Constituency, where the President is expected to:
- Launch the construction of the Gor Mahia Ring Road in Magina
- Officially open the Ndhiwa Technical Training Institute (TTI) in Kanyamwa Kologi ward
Focus on Development and Economic Growth
On Friday, President Ruto will preside over the closing ceremony of the Blue Economy Conference at Tom Mboya University, before heading out to inspect and commission additional projects across various parts of the county.
The tour is part of a broader effort by the Head of State to solidify development-focused engagement with counties in Nyanza, a region traditionally aligned with opposition politics.
Local Leaders and Clergy Voice Support
Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino has urged residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President, framing the visit as an important opportunity to advance local development goals.
Local church leaders have also expressed support. Bishop Adede Ongola of the Agano Ark Covenant Church lauded President Ruto’s commitment to uplifting the county’s living standards.
“We are encouraged by the President’s efforts in improving infrastructure and access to education. These projects will leave a lasting impact,” said Bishop Ongola.
Madaraka Day Preparations
This year’s Madaraka Day celebrations are anticipated to spotlight national unity, economic transformation, and youth empowerment. The decision to host the event at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay is widely seen as a gesture of national cohesion and a step toward bridging long-standing regional divides.
