Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has officially been admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, marking a major personal and professional milestone in his journey from the slums of Kisumu to the legal corridors of justice.
In an emotional announcement shared on social media, Babu reflected on his upbringing in the informal settlement of Nyalenda, where he witnessed firsthand the systemic abuse of ordinary citizens by law enforcement agencies. He cited the repeated harassment and beatings his mother endured at the hands of the police — often without trial — as a catalyst for his decision to study law.
“This achievement is not about personal grandiosity. It is about sharpening the tools of service,” Babu wrote. “The law is now a new battlefield where I will fight even harder for justice, equity, and the rights of the common mwananchi.”
The legislator, who holds multiple academic qualifications, emphasized that his admission to the Bar is a means to advance his legislative and activist work in and out of Parliament. He vowed to launch legal challenges targeting government policies that negatively impact ordinary Kenyans, including high living costs and unemployment.
“The government should brace itself for more lethal arguments in defense of Kenyans—both in Parliament and now in court,” he stated. “Expect legal action aimed at lowering the cost of living, creating jobs, and holding systems accountable.”
Owino concluded his remarks with a rallying call to justice and service: “The revolution continues—now with a gown and a gavel. So, help me, God.”
