Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding access to education and housing, while simultaneously criticizing the opposition for inciting unrest and derailing national progress. Speaking during a development tour in Kajiado County on Saturday, Kindiki detailed major government projects aimed at uplifting youth, students, and households under the Kenya Kwanza Administration.
Addressing residents at Olooltepes in Kajiado West and later in Kajiado Central Constituency, Kindiki condemned what he termed “irresponsible political agitation” by opposition leaders, blaming them for the recent destruction of property and loss of lives across the country. He urged Kenyans to reject divisive leaders and support peace, unity, and development.
“We must stop the cycle of violence, tribalism and chaos if this country is to move forward,” Kindiki said, emphasizing that the Kenya Kwanza Government was focused on delivering meaningful change.
Sh600 Million Hostel Project for Kajiado Students
In a major announcement, the Deputy President revealed that the government will construct 1,400 student hostel units in Kajiado County under the Institutional Housing Programme, at a cost of Ksh600 million. The hostels will serve learners in universities, Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTCs), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs).
Kindiki said the initiative aims to create a safe, dignified, and conducive learning environment for students, thereby enhancing access to quality education and reducing insecurity and accommodation challenges in higher learning institutions.
“The Government is committed to ensuring that every Kenyan child has access to quality, relevant and comprehensive education to prepare the youth for the present and future job market and entrepreneurship opportunities,” Kindiki said in a post on his official social media account.
Multi-Billion Affordable Housing Projects
In addition to education infrastructure, the Deputy President highlighted ongoing projects under the Affordable Housing Programme, noting that over 320,000 youth have already been engaged countrywide. In Kajiado County, 1,800 affordable housing units are currently under construction at a cost of Ksh3.9 billion.
Kindiki added that the Kajiado Town Affordable Housing Project, worth Ksh200 million, is underway, and a Ksh4.4 billion Ngong housing project is also in the pipeline.
“Through the Affordable Housing Programme, we are not just building houses—we are creating jobs and dignifying families,” he noted.
Boost for Local Markets, Employment, and Infrastructure
Kindiki also spoke about the government’s plan to construct over 400 fresh produce markets across the country. Fourteen of these are located in Kajiado County, including in Namanga, Bisil, Rongai, Kitengela, Kiserian, and Kimana. The markets aim to improve access to clean and well-managed trading spaces for farmers and small-scale traders.
Other national programs spotlighted included the Climate WorX green jobs initiative, recruitment of teachers and health promoters, and the establishment of ICT hubs to enhance digital inclusion for youth and small enterprises.
On infrastructure, Kindiki confirmed that the Ngong–Suswa road is undergoing recarpeting to improve regional connectivity and spur trade between Kajiado and neighboring Naivasha.
Healthcare and Electrification Milestones
Kindiki urged Kajiado residents to register for the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that 500,000 people from the county had already enrolled. Nationally, 24.7 million Kenyans have signed up, with the government targeting 50 million.
On rural electrification, the Deputy President revealed that Ksh700 million has been allocated for Last Mile Connectivity in Kajiado County, set to benefit 4,000 new households. Kajiado West Constituency will receive Ksh125 million under this initiative.
Support for Local Education Fund
Kindiki also teamed up with Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi and other leaders to support the Constituency’s Education Endowment Fund, aimed at boosting access to education for underprivileged children in the area.
“The Kenya Kwanza administration will continue to invest in people—not propaganda—by focusing on long-term solutions like housing, education, jobs, and infrastructure,” he said.
As political temperatures rise nationwide, Kindiki called on Kenyans to reject hate and violence, and instead support constructive leadership focused on tangible development.
“This country belongs to all of us. Let’s not be divided by leaders who only appear during a crisis,” he concluded.
