The Kenyan national women’s football team, the Harambee Starlets, endured a heavy 5-1 defeat against Morocco in an international friendly match held Wednesday night in Marrakesh.
Morocco took an early lead after just two minutes, putting the Starlets under immediate pressure. Kenya’s Facily leveled the score in the 20th minute, offering a brief respite and hope for the visitors. However, after halftime, the host team surged ahead, scoring four more goals to secure a comprehensive victory and dominate the match.
This marks the Starlets’ second consecutive defeat following their loss to Ivory Coast last month in Abidjan, signaling challenges the team must overcome ahead of major tournaments.
Speaking after the game, Harambee Starlets striker Violet Nanjala said, “We will take this as a learning moment. Most teams will be at WAFCON from next month. We will use that time to train and correct our mistakes.”
The Starlets, coached by Beldine Odemba, now turn their focus towards intense training and preparations for the upcoming CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2025 and the Africa Women Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to start next month.
