Harambee Starlets will begin their 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship campaign on June 14 against Burundi in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Kenya is one of five nations confirmed for the regional tournament scheduled for June 12 to 22, alongside hosts Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan, and Burundi. The championship will be played in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final on June 22.
The Starlets’ fixture list includes their opening clash against Burundi on June 14, followed by Uganda on June 17, South Sudan on June 19, and Tanzania on June 21. All matches will be played at designated venues in Dar es Salaam.
Organised by CECAFA in partnership with the Tanzania Football Federation, the tournament serves as preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers and as a key build-up event for hosts Tanzania ahead of WAFCON 2025 in Morocco next month.
As part of their preparations, Kenya faced Morocco in a friendly match on June 4 in Tangier, suffering a 5–1 defeat to the Atlas Lionesses. Fasila Adhiambo scored Kenya’s only goal in the 16th minute, responding after Morocco had taken an early lead. Despite the heavy loss, the match offered valuable exposure for Kenya’s rebuilding side.
With four matches to be played within eight days, squad management will be crucial for the Starlets as they seek a top-two finish and a place in the final.
