KCB FC Sacks Coaching Staff After Dismal Run as Nairobi United Celebrates Promotion to Top Flight
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Football Club has taken a decisive step by relieving its entire senior coaching staff following a string of poor results in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League. This move comes amid growing pressure from fans and club stakeholders to address the team’s deteriorating form.
Coaching Staff Shown the Door
Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo, Assistant Coach Jeffer Odongo, and Fitness Trainer Eric Muranda have been sent packing with immediate effect. The club’s management, led by Chairman Bramwel Simiyu, made the decision after KCB went on a seven-match winless streak, including five consecutive losses and two draws. The last time the bankers celebrated a win was back on March 15, when they narrowly defeated Ulinzi Stars 2-1.
In a bid to stabilize the team before the season concludes, Goalkeeping Coach Samuel Koko Okoth has been appointed as interim head coach to oversee the remaining two matches.
In a public statement, Chairman Simiyu emphasized the need to “inject fresh energy and focus into the team,” acknowledging the frustration of supporters while reaffirming the club’s long-term ambition to win the league and maintain a competitive edge.
Underwhelming Season for KCB
The bankers currently sit in ninth place on the FKF Premier League table with 41 points — a position that falls well short of the club’s expectations. KCB began the season with aspirations of contending for the title, but a mid-season slump dashed those hopes. This decline has sparked internal reviews and restructuring, with more changes likely to follow during the off-season.
The club’s financial backing, relative to most FKF Premier League teams, has always positioned it as a potential powerhouse. However, the results on the pitch have yet to match this investment, increasing scrutiny on the team’s management and player recruitment strategy.
