Manchester United make improved bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo as forward expresses desire to join Old Trafford
Manchester United have intensified their efforts to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo by submitting a significantly improved offer worth £65 million plus £5 million in add-ons, according to sources close to the deal. The 25-year-old Cameroon international has reportedly made it clear that he wishes to join United if he moves this summer.
The Red Devils had two previous bids turned down by Brentford — an initial offer of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons, followed by a second proposal of £55 million plus £7.5 million in bonuses. However, the West London club have been holding out for a fee that exceeds the £62.5 million United paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha earlier this summer.
Mbeumo Has Chosen United
Despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, especially after the arrival of former Brentford boss Thomas Frank at the helm, Mbeumo has informed both clubs that his preferred destination is Manchester United. He has one year remaining on his Brentford contract, with the club holding the option to extend for a further 12 months.
Mbeumo’s desire to link up with new United manager Rúben Amorim has reportedly played a key role in pushing the transfer forward. The Athletic first reported on June 2 that Mbeumo had made up his mind about joining United.
A Proven Premier League Forward
Mbeumo enjoyed a breakout 2024/25 season, scoring 20 goals and providing 8 assists to help Brentford finish 10th in the Premier League. His consistent performances have earned him a reputation as one of the most versatile and dangerous attacking players in England’s top flight.
A natural left-footer who’s comfortable with both feet, Mbeumo has thrived in various attacking roles at Brentford — most notably as:
- A right winger in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 setup
- A striker in a two-man front alongside Yoane Wissa in a 3-5-2
His adaptability and work rate have made him a standout performer, capable of driving into space, creating chances, and delivering in the final third. Analysts suggest that under Amorim, Mbeumo would be best utilized as the right-sided No. 10 in a 3-4-3 formation, offering United a more fluid, multidimensional attacking setup.
Low Risk, High Impact
One of Mbeumo’s biggest advantages is that he is Premier League-proven. He would likely require less adaptation time than some of United’s alternative overseas transfer targets — a key consideration for a team looking to hit the ground running under new leadership.
He also brings a level of consistency and tactical intelligence that would complement United’s attacking unit, potentially forming a dynamic trio with the likes of Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho.
What’s Next?
Brentford are now weighing United’s latest offer, with insiders suggesting a decision could be made in the coming days. The London club may attempt to hold firm or negotiate further, but Mbeumo’s desire to leave and join Manchester United could play a decisive role in closing the deal.
If successful, Mbeumo would become United’s second major signing of the summer under Amorim — and a key piece in their attempt to rebuild and challenge for top honours in the 2025/26 season.
