The family of missing blogger and digital activist Ndiang’ui Kinyangia has confirmed that he is alive and in good health, after days of uncertainty that sparked public concern and calls for accountability.
In an official statement released on Wednesday by lawyer Wahome Thuku on behalf of the family, it was revealed that Kinyangia made contact on Tuesday evening, speaking to a family member from an undisclosed location. According to the statement, Kinyangia had gone into hiding out of fear for his life after learning that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were allegedly seeking him over unspecified criminal allegations.
“Mr Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” the statement read.
Thuku added that Kinyangia expressed his willingness to cooperate with authorities and face any legal processes—provided his safety and security are guaranteed.
“Mr Ndiangui has indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security is guaranteed,” it stated.
The statement also raised serious concerns about the conduct of law enforcement during Kinyangia’s absence. According to the family, DCI officers allegedly broke into his residence, confiscated several items, and left without informing any relatives. The incident was reported to Kinoo Police Station.
“This information has been duly communicated to the Law Society of Kenya for analysis and presentation,” the statement noted.
The case of Kinyangia has drawn significant public attention in recent days, with many fearing he had been forcibly disappeared—part of a broader pattern targeting outspoken activists and digital voices. His reappearance, though still shrouded in questions, has brought relief to family, friends, and followers who had rallied online for his safe return.
As concern continues to mount over the safety of activists and bloggers in Kenya, the statement underscores the urgent need for transparency and due process from state agencies.
