Kenyan comedian David Oyando, popularly known as Mulamwah, and content creator Ruth K (real name Ruth Njoki Karegi) have officially gone their separate ways, just months after celebrating their engagement and years of a closely followed relationship.
Mulamwah confirmed the breakup on April 10, 2025, with a bold social media post:
“YES, IT’S TRUE WE HAVE DECIDED TO PART WAYS WITH R.K. It was nice while it lasted.”
The announcement followed weeks of speculation, including noticeable signs such as both parties unfollowing each other on social media, Ruth creating a new Facebook account, and deleting content from her YouTube channel. Despite the breakup, Ruth’s Stories briefly featured clips from Mulamwah’s recent comedy show — further fueling public curiosity.
A Surprise Split
The news came as a surprise to fans, especially given that Ruth had accepted Mulamwah’s public proposal just weeks earlier, on February 17, 2025.
“I said yes,” Ruth captioned a video showcasing her engagement ring surrounded by roses.
Mulamwah responded playfully:
“Cute fingers like hers deserve rings.”

The breakup also followed Mulamwah’s public Mother’s Day tribute to his ex, Carol Sonnie, while notably leaving out Ruth — a gesture that raised eyebrows and stirred further speculation online.
Their Story: From Hardware Store to Headlines
Mulamwah and Ruth’s story began around 2022 in Kitale, where Ruth worked at a hardware store and Mulamwah was purchasing supplies. Their bond blossomed into a public relationship they initially downplayed as a “deep friendship.” The comedian often referred to Ruth as his “bestie,” which, in his words, was more meaningful than calling her a girlfriend.
Their commitment grew deeper with a traditional introduction ceremony in October 2023, widely interpreted by fans as a cultural wedding, though Ruth later clarified it was an informal family meeting influenced by traditional expectations, especially during her pregnancy.

In February 2024, the couple welcomed their son, Oyando Jr., further cementing their personal and public lives.
Ruth’s Emotional Reintroduction
Following the breakup, Ruth reintroduced herself on Facebook using her full name, Ruth Njoki Karegi, and shared a reflective post:
“It has been a tough season lately, the storms were too strong but God helped me through. This song says it all.”
Despite the deeply personal nature of their split, neither party has publicly disclosed the exact reasons behind it. There are no confirmed allegations of misconduct, and both have called for privacy.
Still, some online observers questioned the timing of the breakup — coinciding with Mulamwah’s upcoming comedy show — with critics suggesting a potential publicity stunt, while others urged empathy.
A Pattern?
This marks Mulamwah’s second public breakup in four years. His previous relationship with Carol Sonnie, which ended in 2021, involved a daughter, Keilah Oyando, and extended online disputes over child support and separation details.
Compared to that episode, this latest separation has unfolded more quietly, though fans remain watchful for possible developments.
For now, both Mulamwah and Ruth K appear to be taking time to heal, rebrand, and reset — professionally and personally.
