Kenya is set to host the premiere of the acclaimed Nigerian psychological thriller Over the Bridge on June 6, 2025, marking the debut of Screen Connect, a new Pan-African film distribution initiative.
Screen Connect, established in 2024 under Some Fine Day Pix and GIZ’s Moving Pictures program, aims to bridge the distribution gap in African cinema by bringing culturally rich films to audiences across the continent. Co-founded by Cassandra Onwualu (Nigeria), Marete Selvin (Kenya), and Mizero Kabano Yannick (Rwanda), the initiative seeks to connect African audiences with stories from neighboring countries.
Over the Bridge, directed by Tolu Ajayi—known for MTV Shuga Naija and Showmax’s Diiche—follows Folarin, a successful investment banker whose life unravels after a major government project fails. The film stars Ozzy Agu, Segilola Ogidan, Joke Silva, Deyemi Okanlawon, Chimezie Imo, and Paul Adam.
The film garnered 12 nominations at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), winning Best Cinematography and Best Production Design.
Kenyan audiences can catch Over the Bridge at Century Cinemax Junction, Garden City, and Two Rivers from June 6 through the end of the month.
This premiere signifies a significant step in Pan-African collaboration, aiming to make African stories more accessible to African audiences.
