Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of Ghanaian international Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United, subject to a work permit. The 23-year-old forward has agreed to a long-term deal with Spurs and will wear the number 20 shirt.
Kudus joins the North London club after an impressive two-year spell at West Ham, where he scored 19 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions. His debut season in the Premier League was particularly notable, producing 14 goals and nine assists, and earning a Premier League Player of the Month nomination in December 2023.
Tottenham described Kudus as an “exciting and direct attacker,” highlighting his blend of creativity, pace, and goal-scoring instinct.
From Nima to North London
Born in Nima, Accra, Kudus began his football journey at Strong Tower FC before joining the renowned Right to Dream Academy in 2012. His talent quickly propelled him to Europe, signing with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland in 2018, where he made 57 appearances and scored 14 goals.
In 2020, the young forward moved to Ajax and hit the ground running, registering four goal involvements in his first three matches. He helped the Dutch giants win both the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup in his debut season and was part of the league-winning side again in 2021/22.
The 2022/23 campaign saw Kudus flourish, netting 18 goals in all competitions, including four in the UEFA Champions League.
Impact at West Ham
Kudus transferred to West Ham United in August 2023 and made an immediate impression, scoring twice on his full debut in a UEFA Europa League match. He quickly adapted to English football, dazzling fans with a mix of power, skill, and flair.
His spectacular solo goal against SC Freiburg in the Europa League earned him West Ham’s Goal of the Season and a nomination for the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award, further cementing his status as one of the league’s brightest stars.
International Career
On the international stage, Kudus has 42 caps and 12 goals for the Ghana national team since debuting in November 2019 with a goal against South Africa. He featured for the Black Stars in both the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar—where he scored twice in the group stage—and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He has been named Ghana Footballer of the Year in 2023 and 2024, recognizing his consistent excellence for both club and country.
A Major Coup for Spurs
Kudus’ arrival is viewed as a significant coup for Tottenham, who continue to rebuild under their current managerial project. With his ability to play across the forward line, Kudus offers tactical versatility, technical brilliance, and much-needed attacking depth for Spurs.
The deal is now pending work permit clearance before Kudus can be officially unveiled and join the team for pre-season preparations.
