Tragic AMREF Air Ambulance Crash Claims Six Lives in Kiambu
On Thursday afternoon, a devastating air ambulance accident occurred in Mwihoko, Kiambu, resulting in the deaths of six individuals. The ill-fated AMREF aircraft, carrying two doctors, two nurses, and two civilians on the ground, crashed shortly after departing from Wilson Airport.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed that the plane lost all radar and radio communication with Air Traffic Control just three minutes after takeoff. According to KCAA Director-General Emile Arao, the aircraft went off radar at precisely 2:17 p.m., mere moments before the crash.
The aircraft was carrying four people: two crew members and two medical staff. Tragically, all onboard perished, alongside two civilians who were struck on the ground. Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula reported that several other individuals sustained critical injuries and were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for urgent care.
