Interior CS Murkomen Warns Against Incitement to Violence, Vows Legal Action
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to politicians against provoking local communities to engage in violent acts, emphasizing that offenders will face stringent legal consequences.
Despite recent isolated incidents of unrest, Murkomen highlighted that Nyandarua County continues to experience relative peace. He expressed concern over the increasing misuse of youth by political organizers to instigate violent protests.
“We have recently encountered challenges with public demonstrations where political actors exploit young people to orchestrate violent protests,” the CS stated. He cautioned that all individuals involved in planning, organizing, or executing such violence will be held accountable, regardless of their social or political standing.
Murkomen specifically condemned acts of arson targeting police stations, vehicles, and private property, affirming that perpetrators will be prosecuted under terrorism-related charges. “If you set fire to a police station, vehicles, or a supermarket, the charges brought against you will reflect the severity of those actions,” he said.
Law enforcement agencies have already taken decisive steps against those implicated in the disturbances. The CS also lamented that some agitators inciting violence are outsiders brought in from other regions.
On the subject of political gatherings, Murkomen underscored the necessity for organizers to comply with legal requirements. He assured that the police are prepared to offer adequate security for peaceful demonstrations, provided organizers submit proper notifications and obtain approval.
“We welcome any party or politician to hold barazas or rallies, as long as they are peaceful and do not disrupt public order,” Murkomen affirmed. However, he reiterated that any form of property destruction, looting, or violence will be met with zero tolerance.
“Our commitment remains firm in upholding peace. The police stand ready to safeguard demonstrators exercising their constitutional rights peacefully,” the Interior CS concluded.
