Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Albert Ojwang, a digital influencer and close ally of his communications team, following his death in police custody last week. In a deeply personal message shared after meeting Ojwang’s family at City Hall, Sakaja honoured the young man’s loyalty and influence in his political journey.

“Today, I received the family of the late Albert Ojwang at City Hall—a moment of shared grief and deep reflection,” Sakaja wrote.

Ojwang, a 26-year-old digital strategist, was known for his unwavering online support of Sakaja’s campaigns and county projects. The governor described him as “more than just a name online,” calling him a friend, a patriot, and a promising young man.

“Albert wasn’t just a top digital influencer. He was family to my team—one of the most consistent and vocal believers in my journey,” Sakaja stated.

In recognition of Ojwang’s contributions and the tragic circumstances of his death, the governor pledged to fully support the bereaved family.

“I will take care of the burial expenses, educate his three-year-old son, George Miles, and finish paying his widow’s college fees,” he said. “In honour of that loyalty and in recognition of the tragedy of his untimely death, I have committed to walk with Albert’s family through this painful chapter.”

Ojwang’s passing has sparked public outrage, with an independent post-mortem confirming he suffered head trauma and strangulation, contradicting police claims of self-inflicted injuries. His death has prompted investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), with pressure mounting on police officials linked to the incident.

Governor Sakaja ended his tribute with a solemn prayer:

“May God rest his soul in His eternal love.”
