Viral Video of Bella Comedy Assault Sparks National Outrage and Political Condemnation

A disturbing video from the weekend’s Kutit Festival in Nairobi has triggered a wave of outrage in Kenya, after showing popular comedian and TikTok personality Bella Comedy being physically assaulted by a businessman.

The incident took place at Carnivore Gardens, where Bella was performing during the Kalenjin cultural celebration. In the footage circulating online, Bella is confronted by two men; one identified by witnesses as Pavilion Kipkosgei, before being yanked to her feet and repeatedly struck in the stomach.

A woman in the background can be heard shouting in Swahili: “Mbona mnaachilia dame achapwe?” (“Why are you letting a woman be beaten?”). Moments later, the assailant drags Bella away from the camera’s view.

Bella Speaks Out

In a tearful TikTok video after the incident, Bella described the attack as “humiliating” and denied the accusations that allegedly sparked it. She questioned why her assailant did not pursue legal channels instead of resorting to violence.

“You said I ruined your name online… but did you report me? Why are you beating me? Am I the only one who shared your story?” she said.

Bella claimed the attack left her with serious injuries, alleging that the blows damaged her uterus. She also said her bag and valuables were stolen during the chaos. She has since obtained a P3 medical form and plans to seek further treatment.

Political Leaders Condemn the Attack

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi condemned the assault, naming the suspect as “Motiriot Kipkosgei, also known as Pavilion Kipkosgei,” and urged him to surrender to police.

“Violence against women is unacceptable,” Sudi declared.

Nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana linked the case to Kenya’s rising gender-based violence statistics, stressing that disputes must be resolved through lawful means.

Push for Justice

Bella revealed that Pavilion reached out to her after the video went viral, asking to settle the matter privately, an offer she rejected.

“I will not forgive him,” she stated.

The case has reignited a broader national conversation about public apathy and accountability in gender-based violence cases, with many calling for stronger intervention and protection for women in public spaces.
