Kenyan songstress Marya, known for her sultry vocals and early 2010s chart-toppers, has broken her silence following a serious health scare that left her fans stunned. The Chokoza hitmaker is now recovering at home after suffering a stroke and spending days in hospital care.
In a deeply personal message posted to her social media, Marya revealed that the stroke was triggered by a blood clot that restricted oxygen flow to her brain, affecting the left side of her body, which remains unresponsive.
“My oldest son is in shock,” Marya shared, laying bare the emotional impact of her health struggles not just on her, but also on her family. She is currently undergoing intensive physiotherapy twice a day as part of her recovery journey.
Marya, also known for hits like Hey Baby and Sishiki Simu, has been receiving an outpouring of support from fans and fellow artists. Leading the charge is fellow singer Avril, her collaborator on the iconic Ogopa Deejays anthem Chokoza.
“Marya and her family still need us. Please continue to support… Every call, message, prayer or visit goes a long way,” Avril wrote on Instagram, urging fans to rally around Marya during this critical period.
To help offset the growing medical expenses, supporters have launched a campaign dubbed ‘Marya’s Medical Fund Raising’. Contributions can be sent via Paybill number 6739497, with “Your Name” as the account reference.
The music world may remember Marya for her dazzling run on the charts, but now she’s inspiring a different kind of legacy—one of resilience, sisterhood, and collective care.
