The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is set to construct a multimillion-shilling residential housing complex in Milimani, Kisumu City, as part of its growing real estate investment portfolio.
According to a gazette notice dated September 12, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) confirmed that the project will feature 162 modern apartments, including 108 two-bedroom units and 54 three-bedroom units, each with domestic servant quarters (DSQ).
Modern Lifestyle Amenities
NEMA Director General Mamo Mamo said the development will offer a wide range of lifestyle amenities, including:
-
A swimming pool
-
Indoor gym
-
Pilates and yoga centre
-
Jogging track
-
Rooftop lounge
-
Clubhouse
-
Children’s play area
-
Electric fence and backup generator
“These units are designed to meet modern living standards in Kisumu’s prime Milimani area,” Mamo noted in the gazette notice.
Environmental Impact Assessment
The environmental authority confirmed that it has received the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the project. Members of the public have been invited to submit written or oral comments on the project within 30 days to assist NEMA in its final decision.
Among the anticipated impacts highlighted are:
-
Noise and air pollution during construction
-
Increased water demand
-
Solid and liquid waste management
-
Traffic congestion
-
Occupational health and safety risks for workers
NSSF has reportedly drawn up mitigation strategies to address these challenges.
Public Participation
Interested individuals can review the full EIA report at the Environment Principal Secretary’s office in Upper Hill, Nairobi, at NEMA’s offices on Popo Road, or at the Kisumu County Director’s office. Comments can also be emailed directly to the Director General of NEMA.
Wider Land Allocations
The announcement comes shortly after the National Land Commission (NLC) allocated several parcels of public land for institutional projects. These include:
Institution | Location | Size | Purpose |
---|---|---|---|
Lari Vocational College | Kiambu | 2.378 ha | Education |
Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital | Uasin Gishu | 4.998 ha | Residential & Ancillary Services |
Kinyogori High School | Kiambu | 11.493 ha | Education |
This aligns with the government’s broader effort to strengthen public infrastructure while leveraging land for development.
The Kisumu housing project is expected to be one of the largest real estate developments in the city, signaling rising investor confidence in the lakeside region.
