President William Ruto has begun a four-day development tour of the Nyanza region ahead of this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 2025. The national event will be held at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.
The Head of State’s itinerary includes a series of project launches and inspections in Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties, underscoring the government’s focus on infrastructure, housing, education, and the blue economy.
Kisumu County Launches
On Thursday morning, President Ruto commissioned 901 housing units under the LAPFUND Makasembo Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu, followed by the launch of the Lake Victoria Point Affordable Housing Project in Kirembe.
He also flagged off a KSh2 billion Last Mile Electricity Project intended to improve rural electrification and expand power access to underserved communities.
Homa Bay Development Tour
Later on Thursday, Ruto proceeded to Ndhiwa Constituency in Homa Bay County where he launched the construction of the Gor Mahia Ring Road in Magina. He also presided over the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Ndhiwa Technical Training Institute in Kanyamwa Kologi ward.
On Friday, the president will preside over the closing ceremony of the Blue Economy Conference at Tom Mboya University and launch a new building at the institution. He is also expected to officially open the Kenya School of Law and the TMU Maritime Centre of Excellence.
Additionally, Ruto will inspect the Kenya Ports Authority pier and fish market and tour newly built government offices at the Rangwe Sub-County headquarters.
Leadership Engagements and Preps for Sunday
Saturday’s engagements will culminate in a 4:00 p.m. meeting between the president and local leaders at the State Lodge in Homa Bay, ahead of the national celebrations.
On Sunday, President Ruto will lead Kenyans in marking Madaraka Day at the Raila Odinga Stadium. The event will include a military parade, a presidential address focused on development and youth engagement, cultural performances, and a state luncheon.
The Head of State is also expected to visit the MFA Wire Forest in Kasipul later in the day, as part of the government’s environmental sustainability drive.
