Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, July 3, 2025, launched a scathing attack on Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, accusing him of betraying the opposition and handing over the Amani National Congress (ANC) to President William Ruto for personal political gain.

While addressing a charged crowd in Western Kenya, Kalonzo delivered a stinging critique of what he described as the moral collapse of former opposition stalwarts who, in his words, had “surrendered their principles for political survival.”

We began this opposition journey with many people, including Mudavadi. Now look, Mudavadi is completely stuck and has even handed over his entire political party to Ruto,” Kalonzo declared.

“I Tried to Keep Him Grounded”—Kalonzo

Kalonzo said he made concerted efforts to convince Mudavadi to remain in the opposition, but those attempts were ultimately in vain.

I tried pushing him to stay the course, but now he has surrendered the whole party. I tried, but he failed to resist,” he added.

The Wiper leader expressed frustration at the increasing number of political allies defecting to Kenya Kwanza, including those who once vowed to resist state influence. Without naming names, Kalonzo appeared to reference ODM leader Raila Odinga, lamenting what he sees as a retreat from the opposition cause.

I even went to the father of Rome and stood by him during the campaign. But now, even he has faltered. Everyone I tried to push forward has now collapsed,” he said.

Kalonzo Promises Action on 6-Year Mortuary Tragedy

In a moving moment during the rally, Kalonzo revealed that he had been informed of a grieving family whose relative’s body has remained unburied in a mortuary for six years due to lack of financial support.

He called it a “national disgrace” and vowed to mobilize resources for the burial. Kalonzo further announced that former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa had been dispatched to coordinate support with the affected family.

What has been written here — that someone has stayed in the mortuary for six years, and yet there is a sitting governor in this region — that is a national shame,” Kalonzo said, his voice filled with indignation.

He blamed the local political leadership — including MPs and governors — for failing the people and urged voters to “sweep them out after one term”, lumping them together with President Ruto’s administration.

We shall make sure we come together and contribute. This is a disgrace to the community and could easily attract a generational curse,” he warned.

Political Undertones Ahead of 2027

The remarks come amid growing discontent within the opposition and could signal renewed efforts by Kalonzo to reclaim the political mantle ahead of the 2027 General Election. His public rebuke of both Mudavadi and former Azimio allies may also indicate a strategic pivot toward positioning himself as the lone voice of unwavering opposition.
