Kenya Prisons volleyball teams are poised for a strong showing as the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League semifinals commence today at the Makande Indoor Arena in Mombasa. Veteran players Lydia Maiyo and Michael Chemos are at the forefront, inspiring their respective women’s and men’s teams in their quest for national glory.

Women’s Semifinal: Kenya Prisons vs. DCI

In the women’s bracket, Kenya Prisons will face the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at 9 a.m. Lydia Maiyo, expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and readiness to reclaim the title they last won in 2021.

“Things are looking up, and we are hopeful of winning our semi-final against DCI to book a place in the final set for next month. We have trained well, and the players are raring to go,” said Maiyo.

DCI, under coach Patrick Sang, is equally determined, drawing motivation from recent victories over Prisons. “Our wins against Prisons in recent times have given us morale, and we know that with hard work and determination, anything can happen,” Sang stated.

Men’s Semifinal: Kenya Prisons vs. KPA

On the men’s side, Kenya Prisons will take on Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) at 3 p.m. Despite a challenging season, opposite attacker Michael Chemos remains optimistic about their chances.

“We haven’t been at our best, mainly because some of our key players — Elphas Makuto and Dennis Esokon — are away on pro duty in Rwanda. But we regrouped well, and that’s how we earned our semifinal slot,” Chemos explained.

Chemos emphasized the team’s resilience, stating, “We have always risen up to the occasion even at our worst, and the script will not change this time round.”
