NAIROBI, Kenya — Nairobi is set to host Africa’s largest renewable energy expo in June 2025, bringing together innovators, investors, and policymakers in a bid to accelerate the continent’s transition to clean energy.
The three-day event, which will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), is expected to attract more than 5,000 delegates from across the globe, including representatives from leading solar, wind, and hydro power companies. Organizers say the expo will serve as a platform for showcasing new technologies while also highlighting investment opportunities in Africa’s growing green energy sector.
Focus on Green Investments
Kenya’s Ministry of Energy noted that the expo will shine a spotlight on sustainable projects, with particular emphasis on off-grid solar solutions, electric mobility, and energy storage innovations. “We are proud to position Nairobi as a hub for renewable energy discussions and deal-making,” said Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
Industry players are expected to sign multimillion-shilling deals during the event, including agreements to expand wind farms in Turkana and geothermal projects in Naivasha. The government also hopes to woo investors into financing electric vehicle charging infrastructure, which remains limited across East Africa.
Regional and Global Participation
Confirmed exhibitors include firms from Germany, China, South Africa, and the United States. Regional startups will also get an opportunity to pitch their innovations to venture capitalists in a dedicated “Green Hub” space. Organizers revealed that more than 200 companies have already booked exhibition slots.
Why It Matters
- Kenya already generates over 80% of its electricity from renewable sources.
- The expo will provide a boost to Nairobi’s hospitality and tourism industries, with thousands of delegates expected to book hotels and travel services.
- It comes at a time when Africa is seeking to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and increase climate resilience.
Looking Ahead
The Nairobi Renewable Energy Expo 2025 could mark a turning point for Africa’s energy future. With the continent facing rising energy demands, experts say events like these are crucial in bridging financing gaps and fast-tracking innovation.
The event is scheduled for June 18–20, 2025. Registration for delegates and exhibitors is already open on the official event website.
