The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 internship opportunities for teachers in junior secondary schools across the country.

In a notice dated Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Commission called on qualified candidates to apply, noting that the positions are intended to support the implementation of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“The Teachers Service Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill 24,000 teacher internship posts in Junior Schools to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum,” read part of the notice.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the internship programme, applicants must:

  • Be Kenyan citizens.
  • Hold at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in KCSE and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects or equivalent.
  • Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
  • Be unemployed and have no history of disciplinary exit from teaching service.
  • Possess a valid Personal Accident Insurance cover for the internship period.

Application Guidelines

TSC noted that all applications must be submitted online through the Commission’s website at www.tsc.go.ke or via teachersonline.tsc.go.ke. Manual applications will not be accepted.

Applicants must also:

  • Present original academic and professional certificates during verification.
  • Not apply for more than one internship post.
  • Be ready for posting to any junior school in the sub-county or county where vacancies exist.

During verification, applicants will be required to produce:

  1. Teacher Registration Certificate or online print-out from the TSC portal.
  2. National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) card (if applicable).
  3. National Identity Card (ID) or passport.
  4. Two passport-size colour photographs.
  5. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN.

Application Deadline

The application portal will open on Tuesday, 26th August 2025 and close at midnight on Monday, 9th September 2025.

The internship, which will last 12 months, aims to boost staffing levels in junior secondary schools and ensure the smooth rollout of CBC.
