Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali, popularly known as ‘Moha Jicho Pevu,’ has accused Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir of attempting to compromise the upcoming Magarini Parliamentary by-election scheduled for Thursday, November 27th. In a statement released on Wednesday morning, Ali claimed to have credible intelligence detailing alleged electoral misconduct.
“We are fully aware that you have brought over four presiding officers and 30 inspectorates and tasked them with messing up the elections,” Ali said, warning that his team is closely monitoring the governor and his allies. “We will remain firm in making sure that the elections are not tampered with.”
Ali’s statement, which circulated widely on social media, alleged misuse of public officials and election personnel to manipulate the outcome of the vote. The MP also warned voters of widespread attempts to bribe the electorate, urging residents to support Stanley Kenga, the Democracy for Citizens Party candidate. “People of Magarini, vote for Stanley Kenga, and do not forget to take the free money given by those who violate democracy,” he said.
United Opposition Coalition leader Kalonzo Musyoka praised Ali’s involvement in Kenga’s campaign, citing his investigative journalism background as a deterrent against corruption. Speaking at a campaign rally on November 25th, Kalonzo said the presence of Ali in Kenga’s camp was sufficient to discourage Governor Abdulswamad and other political figures from engaging in corrupt activities.
