Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has claimed that his security detail has been withdrawn, linking the move to his strong stance against some senior government officials ahead of tomorrow’s by-elections.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, November 26, Khalwale alleged there is a plot to apprehend him, insisting he would not be intimidated by threats of arrest.
“My security details have been pulled without any warning or explanation,” he said, adding that police officers have coordinated a plot to arrest him at his home.
The Senator, however, maintained he was ready to face arrest, noting that he had endured similar situations in the past.
“I hear that they want to arrest me. Please do not waste your fuel, I will either sleep in my home, which is very well known or in memory of Peter Soita Shitanda, I will sleep at his hotel,” he said. “I have been arrested, teargassed and shot at for so many years.”
Khalwale’s claims follow similar concerns raised by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who alleged on Wednesday morning that his security was also withdrawn around midnight without explanation. Natembeya, who has been campaigning for Seth Panyako for the Malava Constituency parliamentary seat, criticized the government for allegedly neglecting its mandate to protect citizens, including political leaders, regardless of affiliation.
“Five years ago, the state withdrew the security of the then Deputy President William Ruto, but the journey never stopped. Today, the same script is repeating itself. Our security too has been withdrawn. But we shall rise above it,” Natembeya stated, highlighting his continued commitment to political engagement despite the alleged threats.
Both Khalwale and Natembeya’s claims come just hours before the highly anticipated by-elections, underscoring heightened political tensions and concerns about the safety of public leaders across the country.
